about school
St. Hildas Higher Secondary School is one of the best boarding schools in Ooty, Tamilnadu. Provide a quality education through the Cambridge curriculum. It was founded in 1895 by the Sisters of the Church Extension Association.
Six candidates were proposed for the Cambridge University examination in their first year. The school, like most of the older schools in the Nilgiris, was created for the children of clergymen, civil servants and peasants to receive an education in English during their stay in India.
The school's enrollment grew rapidly, and its wealthy patrons included South African legend Sir Hector MacDonald and Her Excellency Lady Ampthill. The letters from Sister Martha (one of the first sisters to run the school) contain fascinating accounts of school life at the turn of the century.

A brilliant terraced lawn with English flowers slopes down into the valley, while a hedge of camellias, sweet verbena and tall prickly apples add to the perfect beauty of the site surrounded by large bells.
