Find out... show moreLooking for a project in the coming heat? The one that will bring you extreme joy with every step forward? Meet Clyde Boudreaux. Clyde is a 6 year old, 20 pound beagle who needs a lot of work. When he was first rescued he was absolutely terrified of people and would not come out of his kennel and not eat. We have already taken many exciting baby steps, but it will be a long-term project. Are you still afraid of people? Yes, do you still have accidents at home? Yes, BUT, now he leaves the kennel and lies down on the couch or in the dog bed. He will eat and even take the chicken from your hand (he loves chicken). He no longer runs up hills when you approach him (with slow steps or with his back to him). He lets you pet him, but he's not sure yet. He will go and come back on his own (with the door open or with the dog door as long as you're not watching him). Each of those big steps has made me very happy to see, but I know we can't be his forever home and he deserves to have his own family take those steps with him. Of course we will continue to love him as we love ourselves and rejoice at each new step on the way to his family, but why wait? Clyde loves other dogs and is beginning to explore toys (loud toys in the middle of the night are best). Clyde is available for adoption and if it's a project you might be interested in giving him a chance to become the happy, confident and loving dog we know he can be. "The greatest rewards in life come from the greatest challenges." (Greg Behrendt) You can apply at www.bassetandbeagle.org. The adoption fee for Clyde Boudreaux is $375. Clyde is neutered and microchipped to date. show less

My little brother Speckles was adopted, but Jeeves and Freckles is my name. I was part of a trio, Freckles, Speckles and Jeeves. My little brother Speckles was adopted, but Jeeves and I left together. We're both very quiet, but I'm awake and curious. I'm wary of strangers. I'm nervous but not afraid. I'll stay behind and see what they will do. My caregiver is a different matter. I stay on the porch because I don't like fuss, but when he's working in the kitchen I'm happy to come in and watch him. He pets me and speaks softly. I like it. I joined Basset & Beagle Rescue about a month ago. Before that I had been in another rescue and had moved from one foster home to another within a few months. In one they didn't treat me well, they left me in a small area with some big scary dogs, but then they took me to an old lady in a quiet house. I was fine then. I snuggled up to her at night. I gained some weight there. I'm... er... stocky. But hey! I think I'm a little boxer. I'm kind of a mini boxer with that kind of build. cats? I get along with them. Children? I have no experience with little people. I don't think I get along well with the very young, but the older ones who are patient with me may be my preference. Other dogs? I'm fine with them, but I don't like having their noses in my face. I tell them with a growl, but not aggressively. I'm just telling you to stop and leave me alone and wait for a human to save me. I am neutered and have my vaccinations. They're going to chip me before I go to my fur house. As far as potty training goes, I do well with the Doggy Door. I still don't know how to walk on a leash because I was so scared until recently. However, my adoptive father works with me. I'll take a leash and follow you on a loose leash, but only because I want to be close to my human. I accept Box although it is not necessary. I'm not destructive when left alone. I'm getting promoted in southeastern Nebraska. If you are interested in Freckles, please fill out the form at www.bassetandbeagle.org. The freckle adoption fee is $400.00. show less

A beautiful black and tan beagle who was a great hunter. We don't know much more about her. She was and still is a bit afraid of people, which tells us that she wasn't treated very well. Gradually he became closer to his adoptive parents. Gail will need patience in her forever home as she adjusts to her new family. Gail's foster parents don't believe she was let in before going to her new foster home. You have now learned how to use a dog door to get out and still working on your home invasion. Most accidents happen primarily because of fear. He now enjoys sitting on the couch with his foster mom when she's not doing typical Beagle things, sniffing the ground, or barking at wild animals or strangers. Gail's beagle voice is American Idol-worthy, and she's not afraid to go straight for Mariah. Gail is about 3 years old, weighs about 25 pounds and has a very soft coat. Gail acts like she really wants to run or play with you out of love, wagging her tail, but most of the time she stops and then walks away. Patience and love will get you through this. Over night and during the absence of her foster parents, she feels comfortable in the kennel. He is startled by loud noises. Gail would do well in a quieter home as the only dog or with another dog to learn to be part of the family. She hasn't had much time to walk on a leash, but she is willing to learn. Unfortunately, Gail has a positive heart and is treated. The adopters would have to complete the treatment, which consists of a series of injections. BBRH covers the costs. Gail is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and ready for her new home. His adoption fee is $400.00 and you can apply for adoption at www.bassetandbeagle.org. show less

He's super laid back and is great with kids and dogs (cats untested but this easygoing guy probably wouldn't mind anyway). Gene excels at napping and loves to be with his humans. He currently sleeps in a cage at night to avoid chewing on dangerous things, but he would love to snuggle up in bed with you. And at around 30 pounds, it's small enough to snuggle up to but big enough to help get cozy! Did we mention he has the softest ears ever? We think Gene is around 2 years old and a fast learner (insert treats here) but he is a bit shy so he needs your patience while he learns to trust you. He's pretty quiet for a Beagle and doesn't sing much yet. Just an occasional bark to get your attention. If you're looking for a dog that knows the basics of pet life (doing it, eating out of a bowl, curling up by the fire) and has enough energy to learn a few more tricks, then Gene might be the guy for you. ! Unfortunately, Gene is HW+ and is being treated. He will be available in late March BUT if you live in Omaha and are willing to adopt him through treatment you can foster him! Show MoreMeet George. He is a beautiful 1-2 year old Beagle. George came from a puppy farm in southern Missouri. Your foster parents don't think you've had many positive human contacts, and you may not even have been in a home before you came into foster care. Little by little he is getting closer to his adoptive parents, but he will need more care, love and patience. He's lanky, acts like he's growing, and can be a bit clumsy. It is shy with loud noises and quick movements. His foster parents don't think he had a very good life as a puppy and they are now making up for it. He loves to play like a puppy with other dogs. It's like I could be a dog one day. On his first day at his foster parents' home, he learned how to operate a dog door. He's still potty training but making good progress. George knows his name, but he's smart enough to remember a new one if he wants to change his name. He is young and chews inappropriately. He is a typical Beagle and is motivated by food, which is helpful in trying to make him more comfortable around people. He loves to play with other dogs and would do well in a household with other dogs. His adoptive parents don't know how he would handle cats. Probably not the best for young children as they are still afraid of loud noises and fast movements. He doesn't have much leash training and would need some work on that. He enjoys running and playing with his fenced in foster parents in the backyard and snuggling up on the couch with his foster parents. Are you ready to give George a good home and work with him to make him a friend for life? He is fully examined, shots up to date, chipped and neutered. He grew up in Kansas City. It will take time and patience, but Ghost could be your ticket to discovering your own superpowers (hint: it takes a lot of love). First the basics. Ghost is a 10 month old Beagle, weighs 18 pounds, is spayed, microchipped and up to date on all her recordings. Now you're probably wondering what makes this dog so creepy? Ghost has the uncanny ability to disappear from a room right before your eyes. Ghost came to us from a situation where she may have never interacted with humans before and isn't entirely sure what to think of humans. He has made great strides in his foster home, but there is still work to be done. If you think you're up to the task of saving this ghost, there are a few tools you'll need to uncover the amazing dog Ghost has hidden inside him. 1. Patience. Have patience as Ghost learns that humans are safe, treats are delicious, and pets feel so good. 2 times. You can't track down a ghost in a single day. It will take time and persistence to learn to trust and bond. 3. Love: Every ounce of love you muster to help Ghost break out of her shell will be multiplied by 100 back to you as you watch her transform. A few other things that might be helpful: A quiet, trusting companion (of a similar size) to help her learn what it means to be a family pet. A safe, quiet place she can retreat to when she needs her own space (she is not kennel trained but will come into your room for a treat). A few potties while he continues to work on the housework. She is good with backyard access during the day but still has accidents at night. We've seen dogs like Ghost make amazing companions when given the opportunity to be in a loving and patient home. Can you help Ghost break out of his shell and discover the joy of being someone's dog? Ghost is adopted in the Kansas City area with an adoption fee of $400. Ginger is sweet, affectionate, and intelligent when smelling. she clings to him. Ginger pulls a bit on the leash, but since she walks on food, she can easily learn this skill. She is domesticated and crate trained. Redheads love exploring the great outdoors, running up and down the fence and talking to the neighbors or maybe yelling at them. She is a hunter and has chased away many rabbits and squirrels. When he's not hunting or chasing a scent, he's so endearing that he'll throw objects in the air and try to catch them. Ginger is a bit of a diva and would get along well with another dog but I would recommend a boy. But if the family is active, she would be fine as an only child. Ginger is good with children, but she doesn't want to have small children as sometimes she doesn't know her own height. Did I mention that Ginger has a 3 foot vertical jump? Yes, she can jump and turn. This happens especially when you are waiting for your food. It just goes to show that he would be great in agility competition. I'll probably end up with a typical Beagle size of 25 or 30 pounds. I'm crate trained, I'm potty trained and I'm not leash trained yet. I'm a cozy insect with long silky ears and pretty soft eyes. I get along very well with other dogs. I am submissive and avoid aggressive play but enjoy a good joke and play. What kind of family do I want? I don't know. Like my brother Ziggy Peanut, I never had a real family. I'm what rescues call a "breeder release." Can I sit next to you on "my" couch while you caress me and tell me you love me? So I guess you could be my family. Would you perhaps read me a fairy tale about a very well behaved dog who was rescued and then found his own loving family? So I guess you could be my family. It was found in a small rural kennel in Arkansas, which is not good news for any dog. It was on the euth list and BBRH saw it and couldn't allow that. Then rescuers came and pulled him out, examined him and transported him to Omaha! It sure needs a village! He learns to live in a house. I am sure you will love all the fluffy beds that are available for you to sleep in. He enjoys his meals and snacks and learns to sit up for treats. Most of the time he is fine in his kennel but it takes a while to settle in. Huck is an exuberant young man who seeks plenty of adventure, time to himself, and warmth on this mission. He is strong on a leash so he needs constant leash training. He will also need constant training in good manners indoors, he is so excited he can hardly contain himself but he is getting better every day. Because of their boisterous nature, older children do better in their new homes. We don't know how he is with the cats. He loves to run, sniff and chase anything he can get his hands on, so a fenced yard is recommended. In general, our breed is not the best to live in an apartment as they tend to like to talk at times. Huck doesn't, but it's not the best for him and his activity level. He would love to be "The One" for someone. His foster mother doesn't have any cats, so we don't know anything about them. He is an avid squirrel watcher who sits for hours looking at the tree.
